The College of IST offers a number of resources and services to help students succeed in the classroom. Some initiatives are led by faculty and staff, some are peer-driven, and others can be taken on independently. Whether it's to earn a better understanding of course objectives and assessments or to find some additional help in grasping class concepts, we have you covered.
Visit the IST Learning website for a complete list of support services available.
Learning Assistants
Learning Assistants (LAs) are motivated undergraduate students who serve as learning coaches and mentors for students, while also supporting instructors with teaching-related tasks. LAs are assigned to a particular course, and they work closely with instructors to provide challenging and meaningful learning experiences for enrolled students. Students can meet with LAs assigned to their classes to get additional help and get the most out of their courses.
Peer Tutoring
The Peer Tutoring program is a student-managed academic support resource for IST students. Subject-specific tutors provide one-on-one coaching to help students practice and reinforce concepts in the undergraduate curriculum. Tutors aid students in their learning by helping to clarify unclear concepts and by supporting students as they practice skills and apply new understandings.
Course Materials
IST students can access sample course materials, including syllabi, learning objectives, and course assessment information. Reviewing these materials can help students understand what might be expected in each course and can help to guide them in planning their academic schedules. Students should access the University Bulletin for Undergraduate Degree Programs for the official listing of undergraduate courses.
