JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for one open-rank, teaching faculty position in Enterprise Technology Integration (ETI) located in State College, Pennsylvania. This is a non-tenure-line, term appointment beginning in January or July of 2025, with an excellent possibility of renewal to multiyear contracts.

The primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate courses in residential, online, and/or hybrid modes, with a commitment to teaching learners at all levels and from all backgrounds. Qualified faculty may also teach graduate courses. Teaching emphases in the ETI program may include systems and enterprise integration; database design, development, and management; cloud-based technology solutions; programming for integration and API connectivity; and project management. University service is also expected of teaching faculty.

Applicants must have a master’s or terminal degree in a related field, including but not limited to Information Science, Informatics, MIS, Computer Science, and Engineering by the appointment start date with Penn State. Qualified candidates with professional industry or academic experience in enterprise technology integration will be appointed at higher academic ranks. Candidates will be considered for a teaching faculty rank commensurate with their education and experience in accordance with Penn State policy AC21.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for one tenure-line faculty position focused on Human Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) located in State College, Pennsylvania. The appointment will be at the assistant or associate professor rank and begin in July 2025 at the University Park campus.

We are looking for outstanding candidates who can significantly enhance objectives and approaches to HCAI. We seek scholars with demonstrated expertise in specific applications of artificial intelligence (AI) that support human goals, needs, and/or values. Candidates with expertise in designing and developing novel techniques such as human-AI collaboration, human-robot interaction, or generative AI to advance knowledge are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including residential, online, and/or hybrid courses; supervise and mentor graduate students; actively pursue external funding to support research activities; engage in service activities at the college and university levels; and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners.

Candidates will possess a PhD in informatics, computer science, cognitive science, or a related discipline before their appointment start date at Penn State. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor will demonstrate strong potential for developing an externally funded, collaborative, interdisciplinary research program, and potential to contribute to the college’s teaching mission. Candidates seeking the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong record of scholarly achievement, external funding, and demonstrated success in teaching and service.

The appointment is at the associate or full professor rank and begins in July of 2025 at the University Park campus.

We seek scholars who study the complex interactions between the human, social, cultural, political, organizational, economic, and/or technical factors fundamental to the use of information technologies. We invite humanistic and/or empirical approaches using qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods that generate impact for theory and practice.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in residential, online, and/or hybrid modes; conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research; supervise and mentor graduate students; actively pursue external funding to support research activities; engage in service activities at the college and university levels; and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners.

Candidates will possess a PhD in a discipline related to information sciences and technology such as informatics, social sciences, philosophy, business, or a related field before their appointment start date at Penn State. Applicants seeking the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong record of scholarly achievement, external funding, and demonstrated success in teaching and service. Candidates for full Professor should have the same qualifications as the Associate Professor, as well as a record that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in IST broadly defined.
