Career and Professional Development

The IST Recruiting Partners Program provides an opportunity for companies to develop long-lasting, strategic recruiting partnerships with a college dedicated to educating the next generation of leaders for the Information Age.

IST’s Recruiting Partners are a select group of government and industry partners who help chart the course for the college's future endeavors and take part in unique and rewarding opportunities to connect with our diverse student population.

IST 495 is the academic course associated with the college's internship requirement. Funds will be used to support the student internship credit requirement, including travel, housing, and cost of the credit. Students will request financial assistance as needed.

Funds will support the design, creation, and implementation of a new IST academic class focused on professional development. This could include course materials, technology, and instructor salaries.

Funds will be used to purchase Quinncia software licenses for IST student use.

Funds will be used to purchase materials and provide training to support IST Career Ambassadors and to pay their wages. IST Career Ambassadors are students who support the Office of Career Solutions and Corporate Engagement by assisting with professional development workshops, resume reviews, and career events.

Enrollment, Engagement, and Belonging Initiatives

Funds for the Be You In Tech initiative will be used for programming to support inclusion and belonging within the College of IST.  This includes recruitment and retention efforts focused on underrepresented minority students, females, and other identity-based groups.  Operational costs for specific events (listed below) will be paid for with these funds. This includes venue, food, and material costs, speaker fees, and accommodations for invited speakers.

  • Wellness Celebration
  • Cookies & Community
  • Company Culture Showcase

Funds will be used to purchase food and other supplies to stock the free pantry. Funds may also be used in other ways to support students in need, such as financial assistance to purchase textbooks or clothing.

Funds will be used to support student engagement initiatives for individual students or registered student organizations. Examples include student travel to hackathons and conferences (other than Tapia and GHC listed below) and related registration fees; support for on-campus events and programming run by students; purchase of technology; certification fees; and purchase of training materials. Students will request financial assistance as needed.

The Grace Hopper Celebration is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists and supports the careers, research, and professional growth of women in computing. Funds will be used to send students to the annual conference. This includes registration, travel, and lodging.

The CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing brings together students, faculty, researchers, and professionals from all backgrounds to celebrate diversity in the computing industry, create community, share professional advice, and inspire through shared experiences. Funds will be used to send students to the annual conference.  This includes registration, travel, and lodging.

Funds will be used to support the IST Diplomats student ambassador program. This includes materials and training to help the s learn more about the college's services, grow interpersonal skills, and develop confidence as a leader. Diplomats serve and represent the college through collaborations with the Dean's Office, Faculty, Advising, Recruitment, Student Engagement, and more.
